Cubs

For boys are aged 8 to 10 and a half.

A boy can become a Cub Scout on his eighth birthday. He will be joining a pack of about 24 boys (a full pack is 36 boys), led by an adult leader known as ‘Akela’.

Within the pack the boys are organised into ‘Sixes’, with one of them (usually aged about 10) appointed as its leader or Sixer. The next in line is the ‘Seconder’.

When a boy is invested as a Cub Scout he makes a promise and in so doing joins not only a Cub Pack but also the World Wide Brotherhood of Scouts.

He is presented with the World Membership, District and County badges, group scarf and a ‘woggle’, the colour of which denotes his ‘six’. Cubs follow through a scheme of training appropriate to their age, much of which will be achieved through games.

Apart from weekly pack meetings activities include swimming, football and two annual weekend camps, the District Cub camp (Pinner & Headstone Cubs) and the 1st Headstone Cub camp. The local Fire Station also gets a visit from time to time. Activities are often held with other cub groups, for example a swimming gala which includes events for non-swimmers to ensure that everyone can join in.

Flag Break
